Draw-A-Day Wednesday 3rd July – Your own view on things

Today, make your own viewfinder, and use the same principle – same proportions on your paper, look for shapes and edges.  This is an excellent way to practice seeing things in a flat way, inter-relating shapes two-dimensionally, which really helps us to move away from drawing as we think things should look, and actually drawing what we see.  When you look through your ready-made viewfinder, the trick is to keep one eye closed, which will help to flatten out the scene… have a go with one eye shut and both eyes open and you will see how much easier it is.  Also remember to keep the same eye shut each time, or your subject will jump around!  the ‘view’ can be absolutely anything you like.  Just look through the viewfinder and find something you would like to draw.
