Draw-A-Day 30th October – The Little Dancer

For our final look at the work of Degas in relation to the dancers it is interesting to have a look at his most famous piece, which was a waxwork sculpture entitled ‘Little Dancer Aged Fourteen Years’.  This was a very controversial piece when it was first exhibited as it depicted someone who was far from the image of a pretty little dancer, far more realistic but not what the public wished to see… which is of course, some would say, the main purpose of art!

See if you can replicate the haughty expression of this young girl, and capture the balance throughout the stance.
